My Feelings on Life and Painting and Wolf Kahn

Below is an excerpt of comments from Wolf Kahn, a noted landscape painter that Christopher Volpe did in 2017. Here is a link to the recent article that Christopher did and posted at Streamline Publishing.

After reading the article from Christopher Volpe, and looking at Wolf Kahn's work, I find a kinship to the words that Wolf Kahn used to describe why he painted and what a painting is and what a painting meant to him in his life.
‘What Life Should Be About’
I try in my painting to express my sense of what life should be about – life in the sense of being large-spirited and generous, to not get involved in small issues. It’s very easy to get involved in small issues in painting. I want the whole painting to be like one big movement, the largest possible issue. Of course, it’s very difficult to do because you have to do it through a whole series of small moves.
My painting sort of proceeds through a series of mistakes …. that’s how you learn, how you get angry at the painting, how you generate energy – there’s something about the process itself that you have a feeling is very much like life. People live from day to day – I paint from moment to moment.
A painting is really the record of a moment of discovery, a moment in your life, a moment in your sensibility, and then of course, like everything else, you find a value in it that you want to share with the rest of humanity, because you consider yourself everyone’s brother and friend. So you hand it on and sometimes you get lucky and it’s accepted.”

The Art of Quarantine
February 22 - May 12, 2021
curated by Gallery Director Regina Held
About Gallery With A Cause
When the New Mexico Cancer Center was initially constructed in 2001, one of the primary design goals was to surround patients and staff with beauty and light. So, the center was constructed as a living art gallery as well as a medical facility, filled with stunning, high-quality art, many created by local artists, with new exhibits every three months. We are extremely fortunate to have Regina Held, a greatly respected and very knowledgeable member of the New Mexico art community, as our gallery director.
The art also is an integral part of the philanthropic efforts of the NM Cancer Center Foundation, dedicated to supporting patients coping with the non-medical costs of having cancer and other life-disrupting illnesses. In addition to financial assistance, part of our mission is to make the experience of being treated at the NM Cancer Center as supportive and warm as possible.
